OPTINAM stands for North American Optimist Championship. The Optimist is being sailed in around 110 countries by 150.000 children up to 15 years of age. Nearly all Olympic sailors have sailed the Optimist. Since a couple of years the South Americans and the best three NON-American countries are allowed to participate in the OPTINAM as well.
This year Curacao has the honor to host a record breaking 204 competitors and 76 officials from 25 countries and 5 continents. And of course lots of family, friends and press. With the American countries and World Champion New Zealand, Singapore and the Netherlands this event becomes the most challenging sailing event for children under 15 worldwide, after the Optimist Worlds.
